CALEIDO coffee table

CALEIDO coffee table

Suza Avolio created these coffee tables as a contribution to awareness-raising about biodiversity. She takes a closer look at all the small animals that surround us every day and whose beauty we usually don’t notice.

The CALEIDO table’s shape and six legs remind the hexapoda, better known as insects and beetles.

To use as little material as possible the legs are laser cut from inside the hexagonal sheet metal that carries the glass top. The interweaved design so as to get “moving” legs results in an amazing cut out on the metal top.

The mesmerizing kaleidoscopes came up by “playing” around with image processing, overlay and duplication of a simple photo of a hexapoda. They are directly printed on glass leaving a bit of transparency to catch a glimpse of the metal base.
